Lisa Goldberg, RN, PhD, Caritas Coach
Dr. Lisa Goldberg is an Associate Professor and Caritas Coach in the School of Nursing, Faculty of Health, Dalhousie University. She lives surrounded by the water in the beautiful city of Halifax, Nova Scotia with her fluffy black cat, Petunia. She can often be found drinking exceptional earl grey, purchasing too many tea pots, or spending time with friends, family and colleagues. As a member of 2SLGBTQ+ communities, her passion is driven by a commitment to redress inequities for these communities, from the perspective of nurses caring for these communities, in addition to the recognition that nurses are also members of these communities themselves. Lisa has extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her pedagogical approach to educational scholarship and research is guided by feminist and queer phenomenology and practiced through the philosophy of caring science. Much of her work as an academic is informed by her practice as a former perinatal nurse with a background in contemporary dance and the discipline of philosophy. Her latest work, what to expect when you aren’t expected, is a touring play and workshop series funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Council of Canada. The tour is based on the stories of women who self-identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer from across the province of Nova Scotia and is grounded in Dr. Goldberg’s program of research. The tour brings together a number of academics, theatre and queer community organizations and will hit local theatres in the spring of 2021. Dr. Goldberg is also one of Dalhousie’s Inaugural Provost Fellows (2019). This work further builds on Lisa’s commitment to 2SLGBTQ+ communities with a larger platform across the university to address broader issues related to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).
